ABOUT SOLAR ECLIPSES

Solar eclipses only happen during the darkest phase of the Moon, known as the New Moon, which is when it’s situated between Earth and the Sun. Also, when it makes an exact conjunction with the Sun. It results impossible for us to see it because the solar rays can’t illuminate the near side of the Moon. However, there is an exception, for it’s visible when it overshadows the Sun during the eclipse.

This event is produced when the Moon’s orbit crosses the ecliptic, the path of the Sun. Thus, when the luminaries are close to a lunar node. For instance, a total eclipse casts the Umbra on Earth and the Moon covers the Sun’s entire disk. This produces darkness during day time in the places where the Umbra was cast.

ECLIPSES EFFECTS FROM THE ASTROLOGICAL PERSPECTIVE

Astrologically, considering that the Sun represents life, vitality and clarity and will be eclipsed by the Moon that represents the subconscious mind and our emotional nature, our sense of vitality may decrease and confusion may arise. Thus, if the New Moon is a time of stillness and for introspection, when it happens with this event, its energy is three times stronger and three times recommended to retreat at home, introspect and only do spiritual activities. It’s not ideal to set New Moon intentions before 12 hours has passed, cast spells for manifestation, take risks and make important decisions as it’s considered an inauspicious event.

However, eclipses have a more profound meaning and that is that they trigger karmic events that can last months, years or a life time, depending on what occurred during the course of its six month cycle. Generally, when it happens in the north node, it’s an event that realigns us to a karmic purpose or our dharma while liberating from what no longer serves.

TOTAL SOLAR ECLIPSE IN CANCER

The total solar eclipse occurs at 10 degrees Cancer, the sign of the mother, nurturer and ruled by the queen of the tides, the Moon. This event is going to happen with the north node, inviting us to reconnect with what we consider as our home, as our mother, with our roots and our origin, but by first letting go and demolishing those internal or external structures that prevent that reconnection.

This eclipse makes an opening of a transformative period that will culminate with the lunar eclipse in Cancer in January 10th, 2020.

Therefore, it initiates a cycle of six months to work on these karmic themes. However, it makes it very different from the other lunar cycles because the effects of these are three times stronger. In addition, there is a very significant aspect happening between the south node, Saturn and Pluto. This configuration is one we’ve been feeling since the beginning of the year and now happening during this event, it invites us to cleanse and let go what no longer serves. This solar eclipse ultimately signifies the beginning of a transformation process on a collective level around the Capricorn and Cancer axis. Individually, in the areas of life where the lunar nodes are transiting in our natal charts.

THE LUNAR NODES: POINTS OF DESTINY

Every year we have eclipses, but they always have a different meaning, for since they occur in the Lunar or karmic nodes, these mathematical points changes signs every 18 months. They are always opposite each-other in the same degree. Thus they occur in a different axis. On November 6th 2018, the north node changed to Cancer and the south node changed to its opposite sign, Capricorn. This year began with a solar eclipse in Capricorn and thus, we’ve been experiencing the changes it has been bringing in the house it opened a new cycle. In July 16th we will have the culmination of this period with the lunar eclipse of the same sign. Therefore, we’ve been vibrating in the sign of the south node ever since and with this total solar eclipse in Cancer, we will finally begin to vibrate in the sign of the north node.

The south node or “dragon’s tail” is a point of karmic dissolution, what we have to let go of and what we need to abolish by balancing it with its opposite sign. The north Node or the “dragon’s head” is the point of our dharma, the path we need to follow for our soul’s evolution.

THE SOUTH NODE IN CAPRICORN

This mathematical point in Capricorn indicates where there should be a dissolution is in the themes of this sign, which is ruled by Saturn. Collectively, it has to do with patriarchy, structures, institutions and figures of power. At an individual level, it has to do with our internal or external structures that need to be demolished in an area of our lives. This is because these ones are no longer solid, they are old and need to be rebuilt.

Furthermore, Capricorn governs the 10th house of career. Hence, it is the sign of hard work, responsibility and the climb towards a goal. Therefore, being the south node in this sign means that we have to let go of excessive ambition, labor exploitation, of denying one’s origins to be accepted in society; of focusing too much on the profession and forgetting the family; of repressing the maternal instinct; of judging those who have a different vision of success; to damage reputations for revenge, among others. This is what we have to dissolve with the eclipses of 2019-2020.

NORTH NODE IN CANCER

The north node in Cancer, therefore, indicates where we should focus our energy as a collective to balance the excess of Capricorn in our lives. This sign is ruled by the Moon. Hence, it represents the archetype of the mother, our emotional world, the subconscious mind, how we take care of others or nourish ourselves. Cancer governs the fourth house of the natal chart. It has to do with returning to our home, of healing the past, reconnecting with our roots and ancestors or letting go of attachments.

Further, it has an even deeper meaning, since this event is excellent to begin a period of ancestral healing. Healing from the karmic imprints our soul inherited, the emotional problems or trauma of our ancestors, releases us from patterns that may affect our life in an energetic level. Also, it can be pointed also towards healing the womb area and any trauma stored through therapy or energetic cleanses.

SOUTH NODE CONJUNCT SATURN AND PLUTO

The south Node conjunct Saturn and Pluto indicates that it is an intense process that comes from our shadow. It is about the structures we have talked about, to break down the limitations that we impose on ourselves, to end up tearing down those that are no longer firm. This is in order start building new ones that vibrate balanced with the energy of the north node.

NEW MOON TRINE NEPTUNE AND CHIRON

The New Moon will be trining the planet of mirages, dreams, illusions and fantasies, Neptune. This planet is currently retrograde and this means that projections, stored memories, repressed emotions may show themselves in less susceptible ways, making it ideal for inner work.

NEW MOON SQUARE CHIRON

It will also be squaring the wounded healer, Chiron. This configuration reinforces that it is an excellent time for healing. Further, it indicates resistance and conflict in doing so, but the fact that it occurs so marked during this event, it is significant that to reconnect with our essence, origin and our emotional side, we have to dissolve the ego in order to tear down the structures we built from it and let go of attachments or codependency.

WHAT THIS MEANS FOR YOU

This is why this total solar eclipse invites you to reconnect with the themes that Cancer rules. Also for releasing attachments, to heal suppressed emotions and the past. This event is an opportunity for returning home and taking care of it. For example, in this terrestrial plane, the home of our soul is our physical body. How have you looked after it? How many negative or damaging things have you let in? Hence, it invites you to begin taking care of your temple. This same analogy can apply to anything you care about and want to protect. It’s also ideal to listen to your intuition and your emotions as they may highlight what you need to release.

As said, this total solar eclipse opens a new cycle of six months that is transformative and karmic. It will reach its climax on January 10th 2020.
