ABOUT THE DARK/ BALSAMIC PHASE

The dark moon is the phase when its still displaying a thin silver line, at the verge of becoming invisible in the night sky. Symbolically, it represents the dying phase of the cycle of life. It happens three nights before the New Moon, which is when it has lost all of the illumination. Thus, this phase prepares us for the rebirth and new beginning that comes after the exact conjunction between the two luminaries.

RETURNING TO THE CAVE

Further, it always begins in the sign of the last astrological season and thus, of the last New Moon. It represents the time when we’re heading back to the cave, when we return from our journey through the outside and head towards our inner/underworld. In its growing phase we meet the outer expression of that sign during the lunation. Conversely, when it’s waning, we meet its inner expression, as the Sun is no longer in that sign. Further, it invites us to rest, recharge, release from energetic or body toxins, banish what we want out or cut the cords that attach us to the past. It’s when we enter the Crone phase, commune with the Dark Goddess and meet with our shadow side.

WANING DARK MOON IN SCORPIO: CLOSING LAST SEASON´S CHAPTER

From October 23rd to November 22nd, we were in the zodiac month of Scorpio, a season that took as deep into the underworld to explore the dark waters of the psyche and uncover the hidden or the unknown in order to shed, heal and regenerate. On the night of Samhain, Mercury, the planet of communication, in which its greek equivalent is Hermes, the god of trade that travels freely between the mortal and divine world, stationed retrograde. Samhain is the mid point between the Autumn Equinox and the Winter Solstice, a time when the veils get thinner and we can connect with the spirits of the other side and with our ancestors. It’s a time to honor the dead and death as a natural part of the cycle of life.

MERCURY RETROGRADE IN SCORPIO: OCT. 31ST-NOV 20TH

Mercury stationing retrograde that day in the sign of Scorpio that rules precisely the dark side, death, the occult and it´s ruled by Pluto, the planet of death and rebirth, it’s highly significant. It was a period that extended the energy of Samhain, so we spend longer introspecting, facing our shadow side, communing with our ancestors or with the dark goddess. The purpose was so we travel to the bottom of our ocean to uncover precisely what has been intoxicating our soul. Sometimes what is contaminating us is so profound and so unconscious, that we never knew it existed. This is what Mercury Retrograde in Scorpio invited us to search and it may have emerged what we long time had hidden.

Once we have the knowledge of what is affecting us is when the healing process begins and this is what Sagittarius season will bring, we will be coming out of the cave and emerging renovated. However, there is some final introspection that needs to be done yet and that will be with the waning dark moon in Scorpio, which begins precisely at the beginning of the month of Sagittarius season.

THE MOON´S ASPECT TO PLANETS

The Waning Moon will firstly make a conjunction to Mars in Scorpio and an opposition with Uranus in Taurus. Mars, the planet of war and action, changed to this sign when Mercury stationed direct, indicating that the area of life that has been under construction and revision because of Mercury retrograde, will now be meeting the action oriented energy of Mars. If during our process of introspection we realized that we needed to make some changes, that there were some emotions related to Scorpio to be healed like resentment, fear, insecurity, deep attachments, jealousy, anger, etc,.. with these aspects, we may be feeling them again deeply, but we will be called to take action, make decisions and changes, forgive whomever we have that resentment with and even begin therapeutic work if it’s needed.

The Moon´s proximate conjunction is with Mercury which is still in its shadow period, and this indicates an opportunity for healing, for gaining deeper insights and for finishing our shadow work or introspection process that began when Mercury stationed Retrograde. If you didn’t do this process, then it’s an opportunity also to do it now during this lunar phase if you feel you need it. The other alignments it will make is a beautiful trine with Neptune, Black Moon Lilith and the North Node, this is where we will be dissolving what no longer serves during this dark moon and an energy that will help us connect with the witch within us, the other realms and with our psychic powers. It’s a potent time for rituals, divinatory work and sorcery.

ACTIVITIES AND RITUALS

As said, the waning dark moon in Scorpio is excellent for shadow work and for doing the Calling Hecate ritual that came with the last Witches Box if you´re subscribed. It’s also ideal to do a releasing or healing ritual with the element of water, perfect also for a bath that cleanses you energetically to get rid of all the negative entities, emotions and energy that we may still be carrying.
