WANING DARK MOON IN AQUARIUS, FEBRUARY 20TH-23RD

  • Waning Dark Moon: Aquarius
  • Begins: February 20th, 2020
  • Element: Air
  • Modality: Fixed
  • Planetary Ruler: Saturn & Uranus

ABOUT THE DARK/ BALSAMIC PHASE

The Waning Dark Moon is the phase when it’s still displaying a thin silver line, at the verge of becoming invisible in the night sky as it approaches the Sun. Symbolically, it represents the declining phase of the cycle of life. It begins two nights before the New/Dark Moon, which is when it has lost all of its illumination. Thus, this phase prepares us for the rebirth and new beginning that comes after the exact conjunction between the two luminaries.

RETURNING TO THE CAVE

Further, it always begins in the sign of the last astrological season and thus, of the last New Moon. It represents the time when we’re heading back to the cave, when we return from our journey through the outside and head towards our inner/underworld. In its growing phase (New Moon) we meet the outer expression of that sign during the lunation. Conversely, when it’s waning, we meet its inner expression, as the Sun is no longer in that sign. Further, it invites us to rest, recharge, release from energetic or body toxins, banish what we want out or cut the cords that attach us to the past. It’s when we enter the Crone phase, commune with the Dark Goddess and meet with our shadow side.

WANING DARK MOON IN AQUARIUS | CLOSING LAST SEASON’S CHAPTER

Pisces season has begun, but with its Waning Dark Moon, we’re invited to reflect on what surged during Aquarius Season. This past astrological month came with potent alignments that may have ignited a fire within that was rooted from rage or from a desire to liberate from something or change a situation.

This is due to the square the New Moon made to Uranus, but also the Venus, Chiron and Lilith conjunction. Respectively, this may have sparked a sense of urgency to emancipate from something or to change a situation.

MEETING THE LINGERING ENERGIES OF THE FULL MOON IN LEO

This was deeply correlated with the triple conjunction in Aries, as it may have illuminated where the wild feminine within has felt repressed, oppressed or enchained. Provoking for instance, the desire of breaking free. However, it also called to follow a new purpose that’s aligned with the heart’s desires, as these aspects were almost exact during the Full Moon in Leo.

For instance, we met the climax of that energy during that lunar event, however, Full Moon’s effects last until the next New Moon. It’s then, during this Waning Dark Moon, that we meet the lingering energies of these tense alignments between Venus, Chiron and Lilith.

THE MOON IN AQUARIUS & THE COSMIC SKY

The Moon in Aquarius will be making the same significant aspect that the New Moon of January 24th made, which is the square to Uranus. This brings us back to the urgency we felt to change something, creating tension or pressure again as there is something we are not feeling comfortable with. Furthermore, Mars, which has just entered Capricorn, will make an exact square to Black Moon Lilith on Thursday and to Chiron on Friday.

Therefore, we’re confronting again the situations that manifested with their conjunction in Aries, but this time with a different lens, as we’re meeting it now with the energy of its ruler, Mars. In Capricorn we can effectively achieve this planet’s objectives. However, in tense aspect with both, it will not feel comfortable, as it will call for action that comes from a place of deep wounding or anger.

FROM RAGE TO LIBERATION

If you remained in the same situation despite what the New Moon in Aquarius called for, then this tense square will create more tension and rage to finally break free from something or change that situation. Thus, this makes this Waning Dark Moon ideal for finally liberating yourself from the war you may have within or ending the one you may have with someone else.

However, remember that with this phase we purge, we release and banish. Thus, this makes it a propitious time to dedicate it for these matters and for taking time alone to meditate and to delve deep, especially now that Mercury is retrograde in Pisces. Although the Moon in Aquarius would not be in aspect with this planet, its energy is still there, making this Waning Dark Moon extra sensitive in which we are called to introspect deeply and release what no longer serves.

There is a harmonious alignment that will happen on Thursday and that is the sextile between Jupiter and Neptune, bringing an energy of healing and manifestation. This is precisely to you prepare for the New Moon in Pisces which will come with a new start.

ACTIVITIES & RITUALS

The energy of the Moon in this Air sign will help us conceptualize and analyze the situation we may desire to change with detachment from emotions. Helping us not take the impulsive action that the Mars and Lilith square and Mercury Retrograde may have provoked. Thus, this makes it excellent to dedicate this blackmooning time to write as a way of releasing emotional tension and clearing the mind. For instance, healing may come from putting into words what you have been feeling and by seeing and understanding it from a more rational perspective. Spells and rituals may require for you to use the Air element effectively, thus the mind should be clear and focused. Aquarius energy may increase mental chatter or blockages. Hence, why it’s excellent to meditate and to write.
