The Moon And Her Moon Signs
For the November Moon Water Box that was sent out, several Book of Shadow pages were dedicated to listing out the Moon through the signs in order to help subscribers follow along and choose the right bottle and month in which to create their Moon Water. This information is helpful when doing any Moon magick and so I share this information here.
Also note that this is a basic summary. The Moon is affected not only by the sign she is traveling in at the time, but also by what the other planets are doing in the sky. It’s a worthy and life long study and my intention here is to impart a bit of the magick that surrounds the moon.

Moon Signs
Note that some signs are ruled by two planets. In those instances you’ll note two designations: (a) for ancient and (m) for modern. The other thing to note is that some years we have 13 lunar cycles. In those instances the general rule involving the sign of the Moon and the sign of the Sun won’t line up exactly during the New Moon. It’s important to always check an ephemeris to double check.
Aries
Cardinal sign ruled by Mars and the element of Fire.
Sun in Aries ~ March 21-April 20
The New Moon is in Aries when the Sun is in Aries. The Full Moon is in Aries when the Sun is in Libra. (Usually)
Good for starting new projects or business ventures, and goal setting. This sign gives confidence and boldness in pursuits and gives a boost of courage, personal strength and confidence. Great energy to use for breaking patterns.
Taurus
Fixed sign ruled by Venus (a) + Earth (m) and the element of Earth
Sun in Taurus ~ April 21st to May 20th
The New Moon is in Taurus when the Sun is in Taurus. The Full moon Taurus when the sun is in Scorpio. (Usually)
Anything related to creating art and beauty is well served by this sign. Taurus is also focused on the household, stability and security. Wealth, creature comforts, family and relationships are also well supported here in a very Earthy grounded manner.
Gemini
Mutable sign ruled by Mercury and the element of Air
Sun in Gemini ~ May 21-June 20
When the New Moon is in Gemini, the Sun is in Gemini. When the Full Moon is in Gemini, the Sun is in Sagittarius. (Usually)
This energy is good for education, research, information, luck, and communication.
Cancer
Cardinal sign ruled by the Moon and the element of Water
Sun in Cancer ~ June 21-July 20
When the New Moon is in Cancer, the Sun is in Cancer. When the Full Moon is in Cancer, the Sun is in Capricorn. (Usually)
Love, family, calming emotional turmoil, healing pain from past relationships and the deep intuitive knowings that are sourced in the heart are all served by this sign. Cancer is good for purifying the ocean of your emotional landscape.
Leo
Fixed sign ruled by the Sun and the Element of Fire
Sun in Leo ~ July 21-August 20
When the New Moon is in Leo, the Sun is in Leo. When the Full Moon is in Leo, the Sun is in Aquarius. (Usually)
Leo stirs sex and passion whether it’s to bring it on or shut it down. It taps into the energetic of obsession, ego performance and popularity. It’s the thread you pluck when you want to be SEEN, recognized and honored.
Virgo
Mutable sign ruled by the planet Mercury and the element of Earth
Sun in Virgo ~ August 21-September 20
When the New Moon is in Virgo, the Sun is in Virgo. The Full Moon is in Virgo when, the Sun is in Pisces. (Usually)
Virgo is the line of consecration, organization, systems and health. Virgo Moons help order a home, a business and a body.
Libra
Cardinal sign ruled by Venus and the element of Air
Sun in Libra ~ September 21-October 20
When the New Moon is in Libra, the Sun is in Libra. When the Full Moon is in Libra, the Sun is in Aries. (Usually)
Libra is related to marriage, partnerships, legal matters, justice, beauty, romance and the dance between on thing and the other.
Scorpio
Fixed sign ruled by Mars (a)+ Pluto (m) and the element of Water
Sun in Scorpio ~ October 21-November 20
When the New Moon is in Scorpio, the sun is in Scorpio. When the Full Moon is in Scorpio, the Sun is in Taurus. (Usually)
Scorpio holds the energy of obsession, defense, protection, and the whisperings of the underworld. Scorpio is transformation through the path of the shadow. Death, rebirth and sex rule high in this sign.
Sagittarius
Mutable sign ruled by Jupiter and the element of Fire
Sun in Sagittarius ~ November 21-December 20
When the New Moon is in Sagittarius, the Sun is in Sagittarius. When the Full Moon is in Sagittarius, the Sun is in Gemini. (Usually)
Sagittarius rides the lines of expansion, exploration, travel, creative pursuits and curiosity. Manifest the creative and idealistic dimensions of life.
Capricorn
Cardinal sign ruled by Saturn and the element of Earth
Sun in Capricorn ~ December 21-January 20th
When the New Moon is in Capricorn, the Sun is in Capricorn. When the Full Moon is in Capricorn, the Sun is in Cancer. (Usually)
Boundaries, limits, containers and banishments are the realm of Capricorn. The Earth element of this sign is good for practical daily matters of the home.
Aquarius
Fixed sign ruled by Saturn (a) + Uranus (m) and the element of Air
Sun in Aquarius ~ January 21-February 20
When the New Moon is in Aquarius, the Sun is in Aquarius. When the Full Moon is in Aquarius, the Sun is in Leo. (Usually)
Aquarius is all about the network, the community, the larger picture. This is a good sign to do visioning work, attraction of friends and strengthen ties.
Pisces
Mutable sign ruled by Jupiter (a) + Neptune (m) and the element of Water
Sun in Pisces ~ February 21-March 20
When the New Moon is in Pisces, the Sun is in Pisces. When the Full Moon is in Pisces, the Sun is in Virgo. (Usually)
Pisces is the realm of dreaming. Journeys of the dream realm, magick conducted in the liminal spaces, happen best here. Divination, intuition and expanding the reach of your sensing, is well served by Pisces.
