ABOUT SOLAR ECLIPSES

Solar eclipses occur during the darkest phase of the Moon, known as the New Moon, which is when it’s situated between Earth and the Sun. It results impossible for us to see it because the solar rays can’t illuminate the near side of the Moon. However, there is an exception, for it’s visible when it’s silhouetted against the Sun during the eclipse. This event is produced when the Moon’s orbit crosses the ecliptic, the path of the Sun. Thus, when the luminaries are close to a lunar node. For instance, a total solar eclipse casts the Umbra on Earth and the Moon covers the Sun’s entire disk. This produces darkness during day time in the places where the shadow was cast. However, an annular solar eclipse happens when the Moon leaves only the outer edges of the Sun visible, forming a ring of fire that encircles the Moon.

ECLIPSES EFFECTS FROM THE ASTROLOGICAL PERSPECTIVE

Astrologically, considering that the Sun represents life, vitality and clarity and will be eclipsed by the Moon that represents the subconscious mind and our fluctuating emotions, our sense of vitality may decrease and will be calling for us to turn within. Thus, if the New Moon is a time of stillness and for introspection, when it happens with this event, its energy is three times stronger and three times recommended to retreat at home, introspect and only do spiritual activities. It’s not ideal to set New Moon intentions before 12 hours has passed, cast spells for manifestation, take risks and make important decisions as it’s considered an inauspicious event.

However, eclipses have a more profound meaning and that is that they trigger karmic events that can last months, years or a lifetime, depending on what occurred during the course of its six month cycle. Generally, it’s an event that realigns us to a karmic purpose while it liberates us from what isn’t part of our evolution anymore.

ANNULAR SOLAR ECLIPSE IN CAPRICORN

The New Moon/Solar Eclipse will occur at 4 degrees Capricorn, an Earth and cardinal sign ruled by Saturn. This is the last solar eclipse in Capricorn we will have in several years and the second one we’ve had in 2019. From the beginning of this year we’ve been experiencing the effects from an individual to a global level, and it has been tearing down structures in law, politics and our own personal ones that were decaying so that we built new ones with a stronger foundation. These events may have triggered events in which we were faced to release what no longer served, break free from vicious cycles, patterns or from situations that were chaining us.

Further, its effects were more significant because these events happened along with Saturn and Pluto in Capricorn, making us go through a process of death and rebirth in an area of our lives. However, this area is being realigned to a karmic purpose as it’s where the South Node is in while meeting balance in the opposite astrological house with the North Node in Cancer. Thus, what surged during these eclipses were for us to open ourselves up to the path our purpose.

THE LUNAR NODES

Every year we have eclipses, but they always have a different meaning, for since they occur in the Lunar or karmic nodes, these mathematical points changes signs every 18 months. They are always opposite each-other in the same degree. Thus they occur in a different axis. On November 6th 2018, the north node changed to Cancer and the south node changed to its opposite sign, Capricorn. This year began with a solar eclipse in Capricorn and thus, we’ve been experiencing the changes it has been bringing in the house it opened a new cycle. Then we met the culmination of this period with the lunar eclipse of the same sign in July. With this solar eclipse we welcome a new cycle, but this one is different because it’s the last one we will have in this decade close to the South Node in the sign of Capricorn.

The south node or “dragon’s tail” is a point of karmic dissolution, what we have to let go of and what we need to abolish by balancing it with its opposite sign. The north node or the “dragon’s head” is the point of destiny, the path we need to follow for our soul’s evolution.

THE SOUTH NODE IN CAPRICORN

This mathematical point in Capricorn indicates where there should be a dissolution is in the themes of this sign, which is ruled by Saturn. Collectively, it has to do with, structures, institutions and figures of power. At an individual level, it has to do with our internal or external structures that need to be demolished in an area of our lives. This is because these ones can no longer be sustained, they are old and need to be repaired. This lunar event is the one that will repair them.

TWO SOLAR ECLIPSES IN CAPRICORN IN 2019

The last Solar Eclipse in Capricorn occurred in January and it began a new cycle in which structures were going to be teared. However, this one In December will begin a new one of rebuilding and creation of new ones that are more solid, stronger and sustainable. This is highly reinforced with the aspects the luminaries will be making with other planets and that is an exact conjunction with Jupiter and a trine to Uranus in Taurus.

NEW MOON CONJUNCT JUPITER

The two luminaries will be conjunct the greater benefic Jupiter in the sign of its fall. This planet through this sign will define our 2020. Here Jupiter doesn’t give us its gifts that easily and doesn’t promote taking risks either. Instead, it invites us to achieve our goals through strategy, commitment and effort. Hence, in this sign, Jupiter brings slow growth, for it’s in this pace precisely when it achieves better results. The Solar eclipse which welcomes a new beginning being conjunct this planet is highly indicative that a cycle of lessons, growth and rebuilding begins in the area it will transit in our chart.

 NEW MOON TRINE URANUS

The New Moon will align harmoniously with Uranus, the planet of radical change and revolution. In the sign of Taurus, Uranus wants us to break free from stagnation, comfort and from the unsustainable. As said previously, the eclipses, Saturn and Pluto, have been tearing down structures and this aspect with Uranus which is being trined by Jupiter as well, highlights that a period of sustainable growth begins where we’ve been stagnated in a gain and loss cycle. Radical change comes, but one that brings more stability than the opposite.

Jupiter, Saturn & Pluto in 2020.

This New Moon/Solar eclipse will bring a new beginning, a rebirth, a cycle of growth and healing where there have been decay and destruction. In July we met the climax of this energy with the Lunar Eclipse in Capricorn conjunct Pluto. After this event, what began to end from the Solar Eclipse of January, completely ended or took another form. However, it’s important to remember that in January 2020, after the lunar eclipse in Cancer, Saturn and Pluto will be in an exact conjunction. This is the climax and the closure of what began building up this year and after their exact aspect, their effects will begin to wear off. On April, Jupiter will be meeting with Pluto. Jupiter is the planet of growth and Saturn the one that shrinks. For instance, Jupiter replacing this other one is indicative that the transformation we will begin to perceive is one of reconstruction after the destruction.

ENERGETIC INFLUENCE

The Solar Eclipse triples the energy of stillness of this New Moon. Thus, it’s best to set intentions or start a project with the waxing Moon, or at least 12 hours after the event. This is because eclipse energy is not considered to be fertile still, for the vital force of the Sun will be blocked. It’s instead a time to turn within, release, introspect and purge. However, there’s nothing to be afraid of, it’s just recommended to do it after if you want to make your rituals aligned with the astrology.

Further, consider that the Winter Solstice began and the new year is soon to come, thus it’s excellent, after this eclipse, for goal and intention setting. Now, the area of life where Capricorn rules in your chart will be influenced by Jupiter until December 2020. Hence, it will be bringing healing, lessons and growth in this area.
