ABOUT LUNAR ECLIPSES

Lunar eclipses happen during a Full Moon, which it’s when the Sun and the Moon are in an exact opposition and Earth is between them. It occurs when the Moon enters Earth’s Shadow and the sunlight is completely or partially blocked from reaching the Moon. This results with the full moon reflecting a reddish color that was refracted by Earth’s atmosphere. A total lunar eclipse happens when the Moon enters the umbra, Earth’s darkest shadow, but when these cosmic spheres are not perfectly aligned, only a small part of the moon enters the umbra and this is when we have a partial lunar eclipse.

This event happens only a few times a year because it can only occur when the luminaries are close to a lunar node, which is a mathematical point that indicates when the Moon’s orbit crosses the ecliptic, the path of the Sun around the Earth.

ECLIPSES EFFECTS FROM THE ASTROLOGICAL PERSPECTIVE

Astrologically, considering that Earth’s shadow is cast upon the Moon in its climax, it’s a time when the shadow side and the things that were hidden under our umbra are illuminated. In addition, eclipses effects are said to be three times stronger than the full or new moons, hence, if the Full Moon is a time of culmination and a climax, when it happens with this event, it’s intrinsically about endings and releasing.

However, eclipses have a more profound meaning and that is that they trigger karmic events that can last months, years or a lifetime. Generally, when it happens in the south node, we are called to dissuade, to cleanse and release or things end by itself. Thus, it’s a moment for shadow work, releasing, endings, banishments as we close a cycle of six months.

ABOUT THE PARTIAL LUNAR ECLIPSE IN CAPRICORN

This lunar event will happen at 24 degrees of Capricorn and we will close a cycle that began in January 5th with the solar eclipse of this same sign. The time to release the heavy structures that have been building up this last six months has come, something can no longer be sustained and it needs to teared in order to be rebuilt. Saturn will be almost exactly conjunct the South Node and the Moon will be very close to Pluto while Venus is meeting with the lunar nodes. These aspects talks about that it’s a time of rebuilding, transformation, closing vicious cycles and about following our path of evolution with the desire to do so.

THE LUNAR NODES: POINTS OF DESTINY

Every year we have eclipses, but they always have a different meaning, for since they occur in the Lunar or karmic nodes, these mathematical points changes signs every 18 months. They are always opposite each-other in the same degree. Thus they occur in a different axis. On November 6th 2018, the north node changed to Cancer and the south node changed to its opposite sign, Capricorn. This year began with a solar eclipse in Capricorn and thus, we’ve been experiencing the changes it has been bringing in the house it opened a new cycle. Now we meet the culmination of this period with the lunar eclipse of the same sign. Therefore, we’ve been vibrating in the sign of the south node ever since and now we will meet the culmination of its influence.

The south node or “dragon’s tail” is a point of karmic dissolution, what we have to let go of and what we need to abolish by balancing it with its opposite sign. The north node or the “dragon’s head” is the point of our dharma, the path we need to follow for our soul’s evolution.

THE SOUTH NODE IN CAPRICORN

This mathematical point in Capricorn indicates where there should be a dissolution is in the themes of this sign, which is ruled by Saturn. Collectively, it has to do with, structures, institutions and figures of power. At an individual level, it has to do with our internal or external structures that need to be demolished in an area of our lives. This is because these ones can no longer be sustained, they are old and need to be rebuilt.

Furthermore, Capricorn governs the 10th house of career. Hence, it is the sign of hard work, responsibility and the climb towards a goal. Therefore, being the south node in this sign means that we have to let go of excessive ambition, labor exploitation, of denying one’s origins to be accepted in society; of focusing too much on the profession and forgetting the family; of judging those who have a different vision of success; corruption in the government or wrong use of power, among others. This is what we have to dissolve with the eclipses of 2019-2020.

SOUTH NODE CONJUNCT SATURN AND PLUTO

The south node conjunct Saturn and Pluto gives to these eclipses a heavier and more significant influence. The first planet represents authority and responsibilities, while the other represents power, death and transformation. Hence, if Capricorn is the sign of structures as it rules bones and the south node is in this sign with these two planets, what we need to release is about the structures they have been building since they entered Capricorn. Hence, some may have been built the wrong way and now it’s time to tear them down as they will eventually fall. Therefore, It’s about ending the abuse of power and control, releasing the limitations we impose on ourselves and in general, all those internal or external structures that can no longer standstill and needs to be rebuilt with being more in balanced with the energy of the north node in Cancer.

MOON CONJUNCT PLUTO IN CAPRICORN

The Moon will be less than a 3 degree orb conjunct Pluto, which is the strongest aspect it makes during this event. Just as our shadow side is illuminated during this lunar eclipse, the presence of Pluto in this conjunction reinforces it. This is indicative that it’s not only a time of destructuration, but that it’s transformative time as we face a symbolic death of something, let go of old patterns, end vicious cycles and delve deep into our underworld if the exploration of the shadow is needed in order to find what aspects of ourselves need to healed and released.

VENUS ASPECTING THE LUNAR NODES

Venus will be almost at an exact conjunction with north node in Cancer. As Venus is the planet of love, this eclipse can be to some about relationships. However, Venus also represents desires and as it’s close to the point of destiny that talks about what we need to follow, it’s indicative that we are desiring to follow it for our evolution while we let go what no longer can be part of it (opposite the south node).

WHAT THIS MEANS FOR YOU

In summary, we are letting go of structures that can no longer be sustained, although this affects all differently as we are all different and have a unique chart. Where the lunar eclipse falls in your natal chart indicates the area of life that is being affected by this eclipse and thus where endings are happening. With this event, we reached a climax of something that has been building up or face an ending, whatever it’s calling you for, it’s for your evolution and for your personal growth. For the reason that we are not only realizing external structures, but internal ones like those built with your own limitations and fears, this is why shadow work or introspection is excellent during this time.

WHERE THE LUNAR ECLIPSE WILL AFFECT YOU BASED ON YOUR RISING SIGN

This is where the lunar eclipse will be transiting in your chart. Additionally, if you have an angle, a planet or your ascendant in a cardinal sign between 19-29° it will affect you mostly. Thus affecting also the house where that planet is located. This is based on your rising sign and a whole sign system. Cardinal signs: Cancer, Libra, Capricorn, Aries

FOCUSING YOUR LUNAR WORK

  • What internal or external structures do I need to release or tear from the house or planet that is affected by this lunar eclipse?
  • How would I then begin to reconstruct it?
  • What things are ending and how can I change my perspective from pessimism to optimism?
  • How can I begin disconnecting with the shadow side of Capricorn and vibrating more with the energy of Cancer?
