ABOUT LUNAR ECLIPSES

Lunar eclipses happen during a Full Moon, which is when the luminaries are in an exact opposition and Earth comes between them. It occurs when the Moon enters Earth’s Shadow and the sun’s light is completely or partially blocked from reaching the Moon. This results with a reddish lunar surface that was refracted by Earth’s atmosphere. A total lunar eclipse happens when the Moon enters the umbra, but when these cosmic spheres are in an imperfect alignment, and the Moon is at the penumbra (the outer part of Earth’s shadow), it’s called a penumbral eclipse. Lunar Eclipses happens only a few times a year because it can only occur when the luminaries are close to a lunar node, which is a mathematical point where eclipses occur as it’s when the Moon’s orbit crosses the ecliptic.

ECLIPSES EFFECTS FROM THE ASTROLOGICAL PERSPECTIVE

Symbolically speaking, considering that Earth’s penumbral shadow is cast upon the Moon in its climax, it’s a time when the shadow side and the things that were hidden are illuminated. In addition, the effects of this lunar events are said to be three times stronger than the Full or New Moons. Solar eclipses mark a new beginning, whilst Lunar Eclipses mark a time of culmination and endings.

However, these events of the luminaries have a more profound meaning and that is that they trigger karmic events that can last months, years or a lifetime. Generally, when it happens in the South Node, we are called to dissuade or things end by itself. When it happens with the North Node it illuminates us the path we need to follow as it aligns us to the path of our purpose through the endings that the South Node brings.

PENUMBRAL LUNAR ECLIPSE IN CANCER

This lunar event will occur at 20 degrees Cancer, a cardinal and water sign ruled by the Moon. This Full Moon brings to a closure the cycle that began with the Solar Eclipse in Cancer of July 2nd, 2019 or of a situation that began on May 3rd when the North Node was at 20 degrees Cancer. The eclipses in these signs are happening with this lunar node, the point of destiny. Hence, this Lunar Eclipse will reveal to us a calling or a new purpose that began to germinate with the Solar Eclipse in the area of life it transits in our chart. In an energetic level, this lunar event will bring to forth the emotions we may have suppressed and it will illuminate where we haven’t been nourished, calling for us to vocalize our needs or desires.

This is reflected with the opposition the Moon will make to the stellium in Capricorn, confronting us with a crisis, the coldness of the void, the rotten or the debris of what collapsed in our inner or outer world. Thus, this is an emotional time, making this lunar event of release, banishment and emotional healing.

THE LUNAR NODES

Every year we have eclipses, but they always have a different meaning since they occur with the karmic nodes, mathematical points that changes signs every 18 months. They are always opposite each-other in the same degree. Thus they occur in a different axis. On November 6th 2018, the North Node changed to Cancer and the South Node changed to its opposite sign, Capricorn.

THE SOUTH NODE IN CAPRICORN

This mathematical point in Capricorn indicates where there should be a dissolution is in the themes of this sign, which is ruled by Saturn. Collectively, it has to do with structures, institutions and figures of power. At an individual level, it has to do with our internal or external structures that need to be demolished in an area of our lives. This is because these ones can no longer be sustained, they are old and need to be repaired. The last Solar Eclipse marked a new beginning that will repair them and now we’ve reached the climax of this energy with the Lunar Eclipse in Cancer, highlighting to us how they are going to be rebuilt and that is through balancing with what the North Node in Cancer calls for.

NORTH NODE IN CANCER

The North Node in Cancer, indicates where we should focus our energy as a collective to balance the excess of Capricorn in our lives. The Moon is the ruler of Cancer. Hence, it represents the archetype of the mother, our emotional world, the subconscious mind, how we take care of others or nourish ourselves. Cancer governs the fourth house of the natal chart. It has to do with returning to our home, of healing the past, reconnecting with our family, our roots or ancestors or letting go of unhealthy attachments.

FULL MOON CONFRONTING THE CAPRICORN STELLIUM

If the Full Moon is opposing Mercury, Saturn and Pluto it also means that the Sun is in a conjunction with them. Thus, it will be opposing the Capricorn stellium. A stellium is a conglomeration of 3-4 planets in a conjunction indicating where there is a high concentration of energy. Jupiter, the South Node and asteroid Ceres are also in this sign. Hence, there is an imbalance in the skies and since as above so below, there is an imbalance in Earth and in the world. We can see this with the unfortunate events that have been occurring starting with earthquakes in different parts of the world, the fire in Australia, the eruption of volcanoes, the political events so serious that made WWIII a possibility, all happening in the beginning of January when we are under eclipse season and the significant Saturn and Pluto conjunction.

FULL MOON OPPOSITE SATURN CONJUNCT PLUTO

This conjunction, that will be exact on January 12th, occurs every 33-36 years and as recorded in history it has marked times of crises. Happening in the sign of Capricorn it’s about the collapse of structures in society, politics and in our personal lives that don’t have a strong foundation anymore.

Saturn is the planet of time, history, limitations, responsibility and structures, merging with Pluto, the god of the underworld, death and transformation, it indicates the ending and the destruction of what Saturn rules.

However, there will be a rebirth and a regeneration of what was shed, a rebuilding of what got teared. The Moon opposing these planets faces us with what is currently ending in our lives in an emotional level. Thus, making it ideal for release. As Saturn is the planet that blocks emotions since it’s opposite of what the Moon represents, this opposition of both is indicative of a balance we will meet of both energies and that any emotions suppressed will purge.

FULL MOON OPPOSITE SUN AND MERCURY

Mercury will also be in a conjunction to Saturn and Pluto on January 12th and the proximate day, Sun will join with Mercury. When the Sun makes this aspect with the planet of communication in its direct motion, it marks the beginning of a new mercurial cycle. This cycle is infused of what Capricorn rules: logic, strategy and responsibility. Thus, this new cycle will be grounding us in the area of life where the Sun, Saturn and Pluto are currently transiting helping us in decision making and in the rebuilding process that began with the last Solar Eclipse. However, before that, it wants us to get in tune with our emotions, our cycles and our needs as represented by the Lunar Eclipse in Cancer’s opposition to Mercury. This aspect also highlights a revealing and an illumination of something that may have been hidden from us, but that our gut intuited.

WHAT THIS MEANS FOR YOU

This lunar eclipse represents the climax of what began with the last Solar Eclipse in Cancer of July 2nd, 2019. Also think about what happened during May 3rd, as the North Node was in the exact degree of this Eclipse that marks a culmination. For instance, this situation may now be ending. Additionally, this cycle that this event puts to closure may have aligned you with the path of your purpose in the area of life it fell in your natal chart. With this culmination, that brings inner and outer revealings and represents a time of endings so we let go of what no longer serves, we may also see the results of the intentions we set sixth months ago.

With this Capricorn Stellium reigning in the sky we may be vibrating more in this sign. The problem of this is that this unbalance may make us repress our emotions and our needs in order to comply with the demands of our productivity and profit driven society.

Thus, this Wolf Moon will also call for you to embrace your vulnerability, your feelings, listen to your instincts, needs and desires and honor your healthy attachment to your origins, home and your loved ones. On the other hand, it will be also asking you to release unhealthy attachments, self destructive habits and toxic relationships.
